Bridgewater Teusday night
My Dear Sis —
I know you expected I would write last
night but it was so cold and we did not find so
comfortable quarters as we have tonight — I have just
finished tucking up Gus’
Birth: 1826-10-01 Death: 1876-09-11
long cloak and shall have one
hour before bed time — Fred
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
and his Pa
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
are settleing
a quarrel about crying Gus is seated by a hot fire
looking quite large — Yesterday morning after we left you
we rode as far as Brutus — Gus and his Pa got out of the
sleigh to warm — then to Elbridge where we all stayed
until we got very comfortable and continued in the sleigh
until we arrived at Syracuse — There we dined —
found Harvey Baldwind
Birth: 1797-02-04 Death: 1863-08-22
Mrs Kasson
Birth: 1781 Death: 1868-11-25
came over to see
me as Henrietta
Birth: 1813-11-19 Death: 1852-02-05
was not at home — appeared very anxious
to have us stay with her all night —We left there
at four oclock and hearing that the sleighing was
better on the Cherry Valley road we took the road to
Casenovia — did not get there until almost 8 oclock
a bitter cold night and poor tavern where they had
not learned the necessary and art of making a fire
after eating supper we went upstairs to about as
cold a room (with 3 doors 3 windows and a painted
floor) as I ever wish to enter it would have been
much more comfortable in the sleigh — Henry continued
to put wood on the fire intil somewhere about ten when
we summoned courage to undress the children and finally
ourselves and go to bed — robbed another bed of its clothes
and pillows. Upon the whole we had a more comfortable
night than we anticipated — We left there after taking
breakfast, at nine this morning — rode to Morrisville where

we warmed — thence to Madison 18 miles from Casenovia
here we eat some pie and cheese and then came on
to this place 15 miles only stopping to water the
horses — one of the horses being lame concluded to go
no further tonight — a good warm, neat, house and
a prospect of a very comfortable night — We ride
very warm Augustus has never complained of the cold
but once and Fred has taken the colour all out of the
lining of his bonnet with perspiration — I am glad
I did not write last night because I was homesick
and it would have been a sorry letter — We hear that
the sleghing is not good beyond Cherry Valley and think
some of taking the stage from there — We have found
very good sleighing so far sometimes there is so much
snow it is difficult passing another sleigh.
I shall write to Clary
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
when the driver returns in the mean-
time let them know we are all well and prospering —
Kiss Fran
Birth: 1826-12-12 Death: 1909-08-24
for me — I am now going to make some plaisters
for Augustus sore toe and Fred sore finger so good night
I shall write a better letter when I get to Albany
Your own Sis Frances —
