Florida 27th Feby 1832
My dear Henry
Yours of the 19 20 & 23 also enclosing one for Ma
Birth: 1769-11-27 Death: 1844-12-11

and one for GWS
Birth: 1808-08-26 Death: 1888-12-07
together with several of your pamphlets
were all received last evening by W. who attended church
in Goshen yesterday. For these favours I most heartily
thank you and will distribute the pamphlets according
to my best judgment. On the subject of A.M. I am
more disappointed than I have ever been, you are
well acquainted with the warmth and zeal manifested
by numbers of our electors two years ago[ . ]

Supplied

Reason:
This is gone
by and there are but few men in the Town that
will open their heads on the subject. I hope
however to be able to get respectable delegates appointed
to the convention. On the subject of interest I
am still strongly inclined to the opinions that an
evil will arise from agitating the subject at
present. Usury and extortion is principally
done away. Large investment are generally made
at 5 or 6 percent, exorbitant premiums are done
away. But break up the established usage. Limit
the rate of Interest from 6 to 10 percent and it opens a
door ^for^ vice and fraudulent speculation, and the
very men whom the law ought to protect in a fair
interest. The yeomanry of the Country whose indu-
stry and interprise drove them into the market
in order to increase their real Estate will be
compeled to pay 10 percent or not answer their
purposes.
Yours affectionately
Samuel S. Seward
