Rochester 6 Feb'y 1833
Dear Henry
You recollect that we saw you
off from Auburn, all in haste, and after ar-
ranging to have your keys forwarded to you
which I hope, have come to hand, the fam-
ily settled down in quiet, giving Grandma

and all, an opportunity to enjoy our thinkums.
The Judge

, evidently felt that the children
were gone: and though the same thing effected
Grandma also, she had a circumstance of
deeper trouble upon her mind. The dear
old lady, by way of partial relief, engaged
my services in her behalf, and I promised
her to use my influence, and I hereby use
it, to dissuade you from sending your sons

away from home to school!
My mind, as well as all your remaining
family, was effected by the breach made a
among them by your absence. I felt this
to be the most interesting visit I had ever
I had, short as it was, it some how
produced a tenderness and warmth of af-
fection never so strongly felt before. The
kindness recieved from you and your dear

in former visits, seemed now renewed
and surpassed and my heart was full, almost
to overflowing, at the increasing evidence of
regard which this visit furnished: and I enjoyed
it deeply, as I desire to enjoy all such favours,
as expressions of the kind regard of a Merciful
Providence over ^all^ His creatures, ever the unworthy,
and though I desire to be very thankful to
God for all His favours, I am no less sin-
cerely thankful to my dear good sister for her
unmerited regard, by which she has more & more
now won my affection ever since our first ac-
quaintence, & now more than ever, and not less
grateful to you for your brotherly affection and
liberality to me.
After dinner I was called away several
hours earlier than I expected, all in a hurry
by the stage; and rode to Canandaigua
and the day following to this city. Several
of the good people here have shown me
much civility and none more so than the
friend of sister Frances, Mrs Thomas Ro-
chester
 Death: 1868
: she mentioned some pleasant cir-
cumstances in which they were both concerned,
wedding occasions, which you know are
always agreeable subjects of conversations,
and Mr Rochester

Missouri & St. Louis & the west, where

we had each spent several years of our early
manhood, and the visits seemed to be equally
pleasant to us all. They gave me opportunity
of attending a communion season with them
administered by Mr Whitehouse

& afterward of
a personal acquaintance with him. He is
certainly a splendid Rector, and a[ n ]

interesting
man. His powers of Pulpit eloquence are
very considerable, but not above those of a col-
loquial character. I love him very much
and I think not the less because he and I
differ a little in opinion about
the American Sunday School
Union.
Yesterday I had a very agreeable chat over a
good Turkey at Mr Haights

all about your suit with the Auburn corpo-

, it must have been
very amusing. I expect to return with
him tomorrow morning in the stage as far
as he goes, on my way through Ithica

Do let me hear from you there, and
me any pamphlet documents your legislature
may publish, that you think will interest
me. Remember me affectionately to Mrs
