My Dear Brother
It is a long time since I heard
of you except by some indirect means, and it being
a rainy day I have [ though ]

Alternate Text: thought
I could not put in
the day better than by writing to you and others.
It is now about harvest time and the weather
is very catching scarcely a day passes but we have
a showery afternoon, this as you very well know
make ^it^ very unpleasant and difficult securing
hay and grain, still I am in hopes that we shall
have fair weather after a short time.
Mother

has just had a letter from Cornelia
Birth: 1805 Death: 1839-01-04

Poor Girl she appears to be full of afflictions, her
eldest son
Birth: 1827 Death: 1829
, has been for weeks very sick, his
fever seemed to have subsided and a prospect
that he would recover, but an absess was
formed on his lungs which from his very weak
state and debility would likely carry him off
added to that, she is in deprived the ability
of attending and nursing her own child,
I expect that you be must have heard before
this time of their trouble and afflictions, and I
hope you will write to her
I wish heartily that matters would work
so as too restore her to her home and her
friends ---

I am at a perfect loss to understand the signs
of the times, there seems to be an active whig
spirit abroad, stirring up the people against
the profligate and corrupt course of the present
administration.
Who will be finally settled upon as the
Candidate for Governor by all that I can see
and hear is totally in the dark, I suppose
it is conceded on all houses that Governor
Marcy
Birth: 1786-12-12 Death: 1857-07-04
will be the tory candidate, undoubt-
edly there exist means of see opposition in
this state ^enough^ to overset the administration, but
to select a candidate who shall unite the
many interest without being repugnant
Opposition of mind; reluctance; unwillingness • Opposition or stuggle of passions; resistance • Opposition of principles or qualities; inconsistency •
to
any with weight of character, talent and
influence sufficient to compete with Marcy
with the tremendous influence of the office
holders and office seekers - together with the
collared influence in his favor requires great
caution and circumspection ––
However wiser heads and abler hands have
it in charge, who will do all that men can do
and I hope that their efforts to have the
country and constitution will be successful
Old Orange as you see by the papers is prep-
arating for the contest.
Marcia
Birth: 1794-07-23 Death: 1839-10-25
who is now spending some little
time in Florida tells us that you expect

some time in New York in August and
that Frances
Birth: 1805-09-24 Death: 1865-06-21
will stay in New York some time
I hope if you do, you will find it convenient
to call at our little place.
Sarah
Birth: 1833-06-08 Death: 1891-06-12
has been quite unwell but now
appears to be better. We are somewhat ap-
prehensive that she may take the whooping
cough which is now in the village.
I know of nothing new or strange to tell
you off, let me hear of you as soon as it is
convenient, Remember me to Frances the
children and all
other friends--
Yours Sincerely
Geo. W. Seward.
