N.Y. 11 Apl. 1835 –
Dear Henry
Your favour of 6th came to hand
just as I was meditating an enquiry
whether you had learned anything
about the land. All well.
We had long known, from your svl

Editorial Note

several

representations & letters that sister Frances
Birth: 1805-09-24 Death: 1865-06-21

was ill – & much affected with complicated
diseases – but to me, I am ashamed to
acknowledge my stupidity, it was never so
strongly brought to view as it was a few

days since, when on a visit to Florida
as our good father
Birth: 1768-12-05 Death: 1849-08-24
& mother
Birth: 1769-11-27 Death: 1844-12-11
described it
to me. I wonder indeed that I never
before half realized her afflicted state.
most sincerely do I sympathize with her &
with you: and if I judge by what followed
the representations by me to Marcia
Birth: 1794-07-23 Death: 1839-10-25
of what
Father told me, of poor Sis’s trials, made
deep impression upon her also: she has
spoken of it a dozen times in the two or
three days since I returned. You are
certainly a kind good husband to be so
cheerful to leave such abundant harvest
of business & journy for her benifit: – the object
is infinite – everything!
Bring dear Sister F. to our house
– we have a quiet little commodious room
– in the eye of the fresh breezes – near an
excellent well of water, where she will
find one warm, affectionate, heart, at
least (I speak of Marcia) who will
do all in her power to sooth her
trials & relieve her pains – come with-
out hesitation & let a little us know

a little while before hand.
I think Pollydore
Birth: 1799 Death: 1872-04-23
will stay where
he is – and Lockey
Birth: 1805-07-15 Death: 1848-05-14
where she is.
Geo.
Birth: 1808-08-26 Death: 1888-12-07
has gone to Jersey to join his

in a store. Has sur-

pays as far as
property is left to pay with. I have
given many notes (don’t smile) for 3 or $400
more. If Geo owes you as I know
he does – and it is 4 or $500 – his whole
debt must go up prety well toward
$3000. Write me often Your brother
B.J. Seward
