Sunday September 3rd
My dearest Sister,
We reached home about 6 oclock
Friday evening, were not crowded and had rather a
pleasant ride. The first intelligence we received at
Geneva
Name: City: Geneva
County: Ontario, Seneca
State: NY
Country: US
was that our cloaks and parasol had arrived a
few hours in advance of us. I am sorry we brought
yours away, it is now safely deposited in the store
room to be sent home the first opportunity. I saw Serene
Name: Serene Birdsall
Birth: 1802
Death:
only a moment, her little boy

was sick she was afraid
with the billious fever. She had purposed writing to you
that day but was prevented by his illness. she is anxious
to have you come but I suppose thought it would not
be so pleasant for you at this time, if you were well I
should think it a kindness for you to go and stay with her[ . ]
Reason:
she looks ill but did not complain. She desired me not
to alarm her mother
Name: Margaretta Fosgate

by saying anything to her about Samuel's
sickness but intended to send for her should he get materially
worse. I saw Mrs Fosgate in Church today, she said
she had not heard from Serene recently so I fancy the
little boy is better. Almira Hills

coarseness than is precisely agreeable[

Reason:
She alluded so indelicately to the death of my precious little

that it grated horribly upon my feelings, but
I must try and bear these things better, my dear baby
I have just been looking over her little wardrobe, it is all that I
have left of her here, but she has gone to one whose love passes that

does not look quite well, says she has been sick a good
deal of the time this summer. Tuesday ‑ I was interrupted
Sunday and could not finish my letter. yesterday
I was prevented taking it up, the morning was
occupied with my school and household duties and the
afternoon with company. I write now in haste as
I am determined not to detain my letter another night[ . ]
