Monday Morn’g 26 March 1838
My dear Henry
I have your favour of the 22d,
so it seems you did not discover before leav-
ing Batavia that the transcripts were with
you, under the cover of the book of Mort-
gages, you have doubtless cast your eye
upon them before this.
You have a statement of the Estate
as concerned with this office; enclosed,
a Copy was sent you on Saturday night
last to Batavia, but I think proper to
send you one to Auburn. I hope they
may prove sufficient to enable you to
effect satisfactory settlement with the
proprietors, & be [ satisfacory ]

augmented as you suppose to about $20,000)
I have thought it proper to make a
distinction between Office Expenses, proper,
and your salary, and also of Expenses
incurred abroakd ^while^ raising funds for

Reason:

The thousand dollars not char-
ged to expenses, but taken out of Cash
I concluded to change on those sheets
& it is the last item on the page, if
admissible by the proprietors & you
think well of it & it can be so
settled. I shall feel under everlas-
ting obligations to you all, if it
cannot, strike it out of expenses
& add it to Cash in hand, it
is not entered in the books & will
not be without your permission.
I wrote the substance of the above
& a little argumentation further
to you at Batavia which will I sup-

hands. This
I regret, but rejoice that so little of all
my forebodings wasere disclosed.
I thank you for the relief your
letter gives me in more veins than
one in relation to my situation here.
Butt will communicate more fully
with ^you^ about it another day.
I am feeble as a ghost, but
keep good courage that as soon
as I can get out onto a saddle
I shall improved[ . ]

It is said he must be sold out
tomorrow. He offers any thing in the
world for a little money, but he
can get none from me.
