our political opponents will talk wondrous hard things but
it is not so certain that our friends will be deceived by them. We
must not expect to prevent their talking, nor can we safely
contradict them until we know what they say.
Say to all who are solicitous that I leave here for Chau- tauqua

on Monday next. And doubt not that our enemies will
regret the day they made up an issue upon the question
that seems ^to them^ now to promise them advantage.
Please let it be understood that I will be there next weekand be inactive yourself in political matters.
