Dear Henry
The report from Penn. today is
rather Flemish for our side. A Loco F. in NorthEast
writes his friend here, detailing the majorities in 13
counties, giving Porter
beyond measure, and say that they expect now to
carry the state by 30,000. But Whigs doubt the
whole story, and declare that even if ^it^ is all true
& more, it shall make no difference here, & I think
myself it will make but little.
Whigs are now assembled to choose delegates
to meet in conventions to make nominations. Doct
Jones
& others grow resolute to have an investigating com-
mittee, and some of them will ^are^ strongly disposed to
appoint it at the Convention. I am coming to the
conclusion that an investigation must be had sub-
mitted to, although quite sure that a voter can
not be found who believes the reports referred to. Our
friends are preparing certificates to fasten falsehoods
upon the Loco’s who report the absence of the Bonds & M.
In all this, I seek not to be known, but if an inves-
tigation must be had, I shall choose to direct a
little how it shall be brought about, & shall attend
to it. It is to be expected that certificates &c are
preparing for use on the morning of the election[ . ]

we shall be ready for them: and more than ready
, we shall harpoon some of these fellows, & then they
may play at the end of their rope till they spout their
last, and turn up their bellies.
I send you the little pamphlet, gotten out I believe
by Plum
