Auburn November 21st
My dear Jennings, Here I am at last more in need of help and support than
ever. With all the responsibilities of the most responsible office in the state
to a jealous People. With private affairs confused and a family sick
yet all to be moved and transfered to the Capital to maintain the
dignity of a court and to perform its powers.
Now my dear J. you must bee a hand now and help me, or I sink.
The Chautauqua estate must be made smooth and clear so that the
wayfairing man may understand it. The accounts of my agency down
to the day of the close of the affairs of the Holland Company must be
drawn out clearly distinctly and justly so that I may settle with each
proprietor
The person who has the legal right or exclusive right to any thing whether in possession or not •
before I go into my new station. This done I shall have
you substituted as agent.
You know now how I want this account made- items and all
debt & credit- so that at a single inspection every charge may be found, and
the balance ascertained. This is the first duty. I shall be at Westfield
on the 1st. Dec. God willing, Can you not have it drawn out plain &
clear for me. I cannot spend more than two or three days there but this you
need not say aloud. My message ought to receive four weeks labor- it will nearly
obtain four days. Love to Sister Marcia

& all the family.
Respects & good wishes to all friends. Pardon & absolution to all enemies.
Yours faithfully
Henry
B.J. Seward Esq.
