The Capt'n is about to call on you
with a little public business and asks my
cooperation in his object. My rule in ca-
ses of the kind is, to write with my fel-
low citizens in applications in applications
upon their merits, and not otherwise.
But in this single instances, I take the
liberty of stating that of the public con-
siderations, ^by^ which I am sensible you must
be governed, will admit of the appointment
the Captain seeks, it will be exceedingly grat-
ifying to me. I need scarcely add
that as a man of general intelligence
correct business habits & unquestioned
honor, ^Capt. Candler^ is worthy of your confidence[ . ]
