Albany May 8th. 1839.
My dear Jennings.
Your letter of the 2d instant has been received. I have
delivered the list of taxes to the Comptroller who will cause you to
be furnished a statement of all the taxes and interest. He will
advise you of the amount, and you will please remit
The taxes are to be charged to the Holland Co. and you will
when paid report the amount to Mr Van derKemp
This applies to all taxes prior to the article of sale in 1835. I
think this is so but a reference to the contract will show.
However we will settle that matter when I see you.
Well, we are adjourned and all is well. I devote myself
now to bring my business into shape and then proceed to the
great business of the summer.
I go to New York this evening to attend the Bible society tomorrow
return on Friday evening, and as I trust to follow up business
pretty rapidly after my return I will report progress next
week. I cannot now say how soon I can go Westward
but doubtless earlier than any day I should now venture
