Auburn June 8th.1839.
My dear Jennings,
Your letter of the 3d. instant was received last evening. I am rejoiced
to hear that Marcia
on her way.
I have been ploughing slowly through the apparently endless business with
Cook
duties and the time occupied by calls are considered it must be obvious that
I have very little time for labor. Under these circumstances I have called
my Secretary
next week with this and the Underwood
will remain to see what can be done as to assigning the Chautauqua
mortgages with William Duer
yet say. I am making an excellent wise and safe arrangement
with Cook and Maxwell. Your receipts in Chautaqua relieve me of all
fear of the ^un^ successful result of that great enterprise.
