Land Office 19 Nov. 1839
Dear Henry
You are aware of the employment
of Esq Patchin
Unknown
upon small compensation
in this office: he is uneasy (as certainly
he ought to be – and is looking to Alba-
ny, modestly, for aid. Taking the hint
from you in mid summer, I postponed
expectation until election should be over
& speak out a voice of success & per-
manency or otherwise – & since this
has passed by, he asks again to
be remembered.
The idleness of little Smith
Birth: 1807-05-13 Death: 1864-07-29

while I was absent displeased me &
I have dropped him a note, asking
him to fix the time when he will leave,
Perhaps he will remain till Spring.
Turn me, which way I can, the
great vacuum I feel by my side,
cleaves to me still! Thanks to you for
your kind sympathy
Your grateful brother
B.J. Seward
