Governor Seward
Dear Sir
Permit me to make a
suggestion to you in regard to the appointment of
Masters in Chancery for this County. If J.E. Phillips
has not applied for the appointment it would be
advisable in my opinion to give Newburgh both the
masters, say S.W. Eager
Some of the Newburgh Gentlemen are dissatisfied because
Eager did not get the Surrogate Office, owing in a
great measure to a report they had for sometime
there that you had pledged yourself to Nominate
him that report has since been contradicted by
Jennings
this evening he can give you his opinion.
The Governor will be sustained in Old Orange
at all events he will get as many votes next
Fall as the rest of our Ticket. My word for it,
