Wednesday June 23
My dear Henry,
Having no letter from you to
day I am half inclined to believe you may
come home tomorrow but I will write
notwithstanding – I have a letter from Augustus
to day, he wishes to go to New York and
spend the 4th of July – If you approve of
it will you send him some money, for
the purpose – he also wishes money to
purchase so a drawing book and instruments
but does not say how much is necessary –
He does not write whether he is to go in
company with other boys or alone – Would
like an answer as soon as is convenient —
Our summer is fairly come at last – Harriet
will give you your summer clothes I am
afraid she will not find any summer
drawers suitable to wear – if you prefer
linen to those you are wearing I will
have some made immediately and send
to you – I am now going to write to Mrs.
Doane
check to the bank the 13th for $25 –

Don't send the "American Citizen" any more – the
wholesale abuse which you have in the Argus
is quite tolerable I don't object to that —
this is too contemptible it has not even the
merit of severity — The canary must
have been sitting more than two weeks – I am
afraid she will die if she sits too long —
I am sorry to hear of Webbs
but really have some doubts about the
duel – All well — your own
