Auburn April 5th 1844
My dear Father,
On my arrival from a two days visit at Albany
in the Court of Chancery, I find your letter of the first instant.
The musket was sent in January last put up in a short box addressed
to "Edwin P. Seward
Birth: 1799 Death: 1872-04-23
Esquire" Florida Orange County. It was sent from
Albany with directions to leave it at the office of the New York and
Erie Rail Road Co. in New York and may very probably be found
at the Depot at Chester or at Goshen. If not found there any person
going to New York might inquire at the Rail Road Depot there or of R. M.
Blatchford
Birth: 1798-04-23 Death: 1875-09-04
Esq. 778 Broadway. I shall have occasion to visit New York
in May and can then look up the box.
I sent you John C. Clarks
Birth: 1793-01-14 Death: 1852-10-25
letter and my own statement showing the
day when interest on Mr. Chamberlains
 Death: 1851-09-18
Bond commenced and when the
first payment of interest would be due and the reason why interest did
not come from the date of the Bond or any earlier day than that I designa-
ted. Any earlier day would have undid the loan usurious, and put
the whole in jeopardy. That communication must have been received after
your letter was written and I hope was satisfactory.

I was very desirus to go to Florida and to West Point while I was at Albany
But my business here has become totally unmanageable and I have insufficient
assistance. I was obliged to return with the interest dispatch I hope
nevertheless that I shall be able to visit you in May.
Tell my mother
Birth: 1769-11-27 Death: 1844-12-11
that the return of spring and of birds and
flowers makes me think always of her and hope that she will
find her health renewed when she can again enjoy the restorations of
sunshine and a balmy air.
Very affectionately
Your Son
William H Seward
The Honorable
Samuel S. Seward
