Due to the abrupt opening and lack of salutations, it appears
that a page (or more) of this letter is missing.when Frances
to give her advice on many points considered
by the frivolous inhabitants of large towns
as quite essential to respectability
I do not think that it is best for you to make
any arrangement to come out until you come
to stay – unless I should be dangerously ill
in which case I shall of course send – You will
be occupied with necessary preparations for the
winter until Frances and Worden
about that time I shall probably be more
alone than previously – My health is miserable I
think more so than it ever was before but though
this is rather a disheartening preparation for a
severe trial it is no guide for future calculation

which I think is rather an unfriendly display of
candour – a private communication would have
answered the purpose better – it has not convinced
me that address is not good – it would undoubtedly
have suited Greeley better had it been imbued
with a portion of Fourierisms
he will not be permitted to leave as he told me
