Auburn Aug. 14.th —
My dear Son,
I received your letter last
evening — it was my intention to leave
here next Thursday the 20th so as to
reach the Point Saturday afternoon —
Some how I apprehend from your letter
that you may be ill — if that is the
case I can come immediately — I have
heard indirectly that you were in the
hospital last month and have been
in consequence very anxious – If you
are the least indisposed I wish you
to send a letter immediately to Mr Weed
and request him to let me know by
Telegraph — this will enable me to
hear very soon — If you are well I will
not expect a letter — you may in that
case take a room for us at the hotel
I would like one on the side of the house
which overlooks the encampment but of
course in this must yield to circumstances
