My Dearest Frances,
Your letter answering to
me that our very dear child

was sick
ofthat frightful disorder quite unnerved me,
for a short time. But I felt sure that while
there was a means of instantaneous com-
munication you would not leave me in
ignorance if she was at all in danger.
Happily her constitution is a good one, but
she is so precious in our sight that we cannot
endure the apprehension of her loss.
