Astor House April 1st Sunday
My Dearest Frances
Your letter of Thursday was kindly sent down
to meet me, and gave me very much pleasure. I left Washington
on Friday evening, rested at Baltimore that night and came
through to New York yesterday. I ought to have waited in
Philadelphia to see Mr. Wilson
and Frances
could not endure the idea of traveling the better part of
Sunday and wasting the whole of it. So I left a note for
him that I would go back if he could not meet me
here tomorrow or day after that.
I cannot tell what I am to do next. Wilson draws
me one way, Gibson
In the meantime the 25th of April approaches when I must
be in Charleston. I must stay here until tomorrow very certainly and
perhaps may not reach Albany before before Wednesday or Thursday. I should certainly
be at home before Sunday and that is all that I can say now.
I will join you as much sooner as is possible, and as far
as possible I will think of nobody but you and the children.
I have telegraphed Mr Weed to come down tonight, and I have to
finish tomorrow what I have to do here.
Lazette went with me to Trinity Church today. But
she will tell you all about that, as well as the failure she has

made in buying you a shawl. I should have got it in half an
hour, but it might not have had the right colors.
Your own Henry.
