Congress Hall June 12, 1849 Tuesday
My Dearest Frances,
I reached Troy at eight o’clock and found Mrs Thurber
Birth: 1813-03-17 Death: 1884-11-25

and her kind husband
Birth: 1795 Death: 1878-10-19
looking after me – Midnight came while I
sat talking with him and they called me early this morning. So
I forgot your anti Cholera specific until I sat down to breakfast,
I will remember better tomorrow if I receive another parcel –
John Gibson
Unknown
hangs around my footsteps like an
ghost. I am quite inclined to apeal my independence
But he has been a good client and very confiding considering the
jealousy of his nature
We are taking testimony in Winslows case – and as yet I am
unable to look through to the end – I begin to tremble with
apprehension for the labor that is to denude on me at Canan-
daigua
– If I did not owe money I think I should not
have spirit enough to contend with the crowd of Lawyers – I believe
that the strongest and oldest are to be combined against me – there
day after day and for weeks.
There is nothing new or at least nothing new
here even to my knowledge – I am in a revery half the time
about the garden and its beauties that I left behind me.
Ever your own Henry.
