Thursday Aug 16th
My Dear Brother
Father
not been I think quite as
well for the last two or three
days, he is suffering much
from a severe cough indeed
he lays on his side and
coughs & most of the time
takes largely of laudanum
but is quiet and sleeps but
little, his appetite keeps
up and his strength does
not seem to fail much
if any. the weather being
now cool and clear is more
favorable for him. The A
few days since he wanted
to discharge Dr. Townsend

and send for Dr Ostrom
went after Dr O and the two
consulted together and pre-
pared some medicine which
he has been taken since
The Old Gentlemen [ flatted ]

and is now the worse for it
Dr Cummins
says is to start for Iowa
on Monday is the only item
