Auburn January 8th 1850.
My Dear Uncle,
Having need a few days ago for some money
for myself and for Mrs Worden
Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
for household expenses, I obtained
a check from Mr Blatchford
Birth: 1820-03-09 Death: 1893-07-07
for $20.00, one half of which I
retained and the remainder gave to Aunty.
Mr Bostwick
Birth: 1829-07-22 Death: 1872-06-22
brought in on Monday the Post Office
bill for the last quarter, in which the letter postage was
charged at $7—. Of this amount some part, I know not
how large, has accrued from my own private correspondence
and it is no more than proper that I should pay it I have
no means of ascertaining precisely the amount of my individual
account, but have charged myself in the inclosed voucher
with $3.00 which I presume is equal to my indebtedness.
If I erred in obtaining the money from Mr Blatchford
Please advise me and the act will not be repeated.
I would like if you think proper to take

the National Intelligencer during the Session of Congress as
the reports now possess some what of interest for me.
Mr Blatchford thinks that I am capable of passing
an examination in March and if courage does not fail me
I think I shall try. He affords me every advantage & facility
now for perfecting myself and has expressed his desire to
take me into partnership when I shall have been admitted
if this course meets with your approbation, it will increase
my desire so to prepare of myself for examination that, I
may pass the ordeal with credit to myself and to those whose name
I bear.
Grandpa

and the family
x Birth: 1830-07-08  Death: 1915-04-25 Certainty: Possible Birth: 1839-06-18  Death: 1920-04-29 Certainty: Possible Birth: 1844-12-09  Death: 1866-10-29 Certainty: Possible
