Tuesday June 24^th 1851
My dear Henry,
We have no mail yet this morning
and I shall have no letter from you when it
does come, at least Carter said so owing to its
being the Sunday mail — Polydore & Mary came
back last Sunday morning — Henry Miller &
his sister Clara came the evevening previous —
Last evening Lazette & I attended a party
at Mrs Thomas Howe’s — as we staid to supper
I & did not get home until after supper I
have a very uncomfortable headache in consequence —
Miss Hobbie is here again with Mrs Marvin —
Mr & Mrs Griswold came Saturday — they
were married the Tuesday previous — I
have not seen her yet but hear she is very
feeble — I think she will not recover —
Henry Richardson lost every thing by the fire
at San Francisco — Henry Perry was in a fire
proof building surrounded by the fire on all
sides — he escaped with his life and a
trifling pecuniary loss — Fanny & Willie are
serenading me this morning — they both have
musical talent which justifies cultivation —
I have a long letter from George which
I think indicates abberration of intellect –

the subject of the letter is complaints of your
injustice — it is incoherently written and has
satisfied me that George is on the verge
of insanity — constant brooding over his troubles
with a cheerless home & want of occupation
are enough to unsettle a stronger mind —
I think he should be removed from Florida
and given some daily occupation if such
a thing is possible — it may keep him from
the lunatic asylum — It has troubled me
much when I have had time to think of it —
Lazette thinks she must go home this week
I do not know how I can get along without
her unless some of our cousins come from
Romulus to read and sit with Pa —
I hear no further from our boys –
