My dear Mrs Seward.
Mr Fish
detained in New York &
the time of his return here
is so very uncertain
that I must beg you
& the Governor
us from our engagement
for Tuesday next
I accepted your kind
invitation in the expectation
that Mr Fish would certainly

be at home this evening
but a letter this morning
made me fear that he
might be detained longer
& a Telegraphic Dispatch
this afternoon makes it
certain that he will not
be here for several days–
Very sincerely yours,
Julia K Fish.
