My dear Son,
I will take if
it for granted that
you are in Washington
yet though I do not
hear from you – You
have seen the death of
Wilder

in the journals
it gave us all much
pain and Aunty

grieves
as for a child of her
own – Wilder was so
long with us and possessed
so many excellent
qualities that I was
strongly attached to him –
at the very time I heard
of his death we were
looking for him to come
here on his way to N. York–
You father

feels that
he has lost a strong
and faithful friend –
He was not able to attend
the funeral which took
place Wednesday but has
gone over to day intending
to see Wilder’s mother
