Auburn May 4th_
My dear Son,
I will take if
it for granted that
you are in Washington
yet though I do not
hear from you – You
have seen the death of
Wilder
Birth: 1822 Death: 1855-04-29
in the journals
it gave us all much
pain and Aunty
Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
grieves
as for a child of her
own – Wilder was so
long with us and possessed
so many excellent
qualities that I was
strongly attached to him –
at the very time I heard
of his death we were
Page 2

looking for him to come
here on his way to N. York
You father
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
feels that
he has lost a strong
and faithful friend –
He was not able to attend
the funeral which took
place Wednesday but has
gone over to day intending
to see Wilder’s mother
Birth: 1790 Death: 1856-08-08

as well as Aunty Worden.
Anna
Birth: 1834-03-29 Death: 1919-05-02
who is still
with us accompanied him –
Aunty came over with
Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
the day after Wilder’s
death – to take leave of
Mr
Unknown
and Mrs Miller
Unknown

who have gone back
to Massachusetts
Page 3

she went back the next
day to be present at Wilder’s
funeral – Uncle Worden
Birth: 1797-03-06 Death: 1856-02-16

is better and had gone
to Rochester
Aunt Clara
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
went to Romulus
yesterday with Clara Miller
Birth: 1821 Death: 1907

Uncle Lewis
Birth: 1787-06-11 Death: 1857-02-14
is there from
Michigan & sent for
her to come and see him
Harry Schooley
Birth: 1797-10-18 Death: 1873-10-24
and Harry
Miller
Birth: 1814 Death: 1910
were here Tuesday.
I hope you saw the eclipse
of the moon the night
was so clear that we
had a fine view of it–
Fred
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
is to come for
Anna Saturday – I presume
he is lonesome without her
Page 4

as we shall be when she
is gone – Your father returned
from N. York Tuesday
morning – goes to Saratoga
again next week – He spent
last Sunday in Orange Co
Uncle George
Birth: 1808-08-26 Death: 1888-12-07
is in his new
house but still uncomfortable
for the want of money.
When are you coming home
again? I have but
one letter from Washington –
The weather is variable but
on the whole much milder
than when you were home –
Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
sends love – Willie
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10

is rejoicing in the purchase
of a new horse – the pony
goes to George Grier
Birth: 1802-09-27 Death: 1878-12-20

God preserve you –
Mother
