writing for a day
or two that I might
hear how long you
would be detained in
Washington – Our mails
and Telegraph have
both failed us in con-
sequence of the heavy
rains at the East–
This morning I have
your letter of Tuesday
and will venture to
write again – I am
very sorry the
excursion to Halifax
is abandoned I thought
it would be of use to
you – Perhaps you will
find some other recreation
you certainly need
freedom from care for
