Editorial Note

This letter appears to continue a conversation about bills for building Lazette Miller Worden’s house from correspondence of December 4 and 12, 1856. It is on the same paper as the other two letters, and there is no further correspondence from her to William Henry Seward for 1857. So, despite the fact that William Henry Seward’s secretary dates the letter as 1857, we believe he mistook the year.
