Friday Morning
My dear Son,
We had a fright
last night– Lewis Rich-
ardsons
Birth: 1819 Death: 1897-03-21
old store room
was burned, endangering
all the adjacent buildings
Fortunately the night was
calm or the house on
this side and probably
Mrs Miller
Birth: 1785-04-24 Death: 1870-04-17
would have
gone– Mr Davis

house
was on fire at one time
I have never known so
efficient fireman – they
saved the old shop
which was so near
and so inflammable –
We were up until 3 oclock
(the fire commenced at 12)
giving the fire companies
such refreshment as we
could get – crackers
cheese herring coffee
& beer. Aunty

feeling very sorry that
No 3 came too late
for the coffee – We
would have commenced
again & made more had
we known it last night –
Mrs Miller insists that
her house was not in danger
though they were obliged to
keep it wet the whole
time – she is mourning this
morning over the loss of
a rosebush and the desecration
of her back door yard!! –
The store room containted
unfinished furniture to the
amount of $ 200 – the
building was valued at
3 or 400 –The furniture
had an insurance of $1000
I asked Father

to send
you your money yesterday
— he then thought he should
be in Albany to day but
I doubt now whether he
goes before Monday – has
business in N. York – will
see you on his way down –
He only returned from
Chautaugua Wednesday
night. Jenny

here Wednesday – looks
better than when she
returned from Roxbury –

was there yesterday
and is lamenting the
death of poor Dash
