My dear Sister
I write a little
today to let you know
I am not very sick

Thursday Friday I moved
into the room adjoining which
we have not furnished on
account of a leak in the
ceiling. I sat there through
the day very well but
after the fire went out at night
I found the dampness very
unpleasant. Fanny

and complained of the disagreeable
smell from damp wood & walls
which was very oppressive to me.
As the people did not come
Friday, we had the room
vacant another night so I got
up, moved the bedding
into the other room where
we slept the remainder of
the night. In the morning

the damp room. I proposed to let

Monday. If Mary had written
this it would have saved us a
world of trouble. I have since
then been in Anna's room confined
to the bed - dear Anna sleeps
on a couch in Fanny's little
room - & dresses most any-

that damp room for fear of
disturbing me by dressing. I
am not satisfied to have any
one then. The roof has been
repaired since the last rain
but I think it will take a
hot summer to dry the ceiling
and adjacent timbers after
being wet pretty constantly for a
year. Henry dines out again
to day though he does not
seem well yet. Anna is
