Auburn March
My dear Mother
Mr Mc Clellan
Name: Hugh McClallen
Birth: 1791
Death: 1860-11-16
came
to me
yesterday and requested that I should give him a
discharge & receipt for $2000 from John Severance
Name: John Severance
Birth: 1817-03-12
Death: 1898-01-19
to
C. A Seward
Name: Clarence Seward
Birth: 1828-10-07
Death: 1897-07-24
, stating that Mr Severance was
here
and ready to give up the note which he holds against
Mr Mc for $2500 (less the $2000 above mentioned) together
with the Article for the house, and all the other collateral
securities now held, or in other words a full release
of all claims now held by him against Mc C. I
should have given up the paper at once but remembered
that you once told me not to give it to Mr Mc
on any account. I therefore made the excuse that
I would write to you ^&^ anscertain where the paper
was. Shall I give it up provided I get for
Mr Mc the full release above mentioned. I can
see no reason for withholding it and Mr Mc would
recive some benefit from the transfer. I talked
with Mr Day
Name: Fayette Day
Birth: 1817-02-23
Death: 1878-02-28
who advised me to give him the
paper, but I preferred waiting until I heard
from you as there may be something in the matter
which I do not understand. There would

be another advantage in Mr Mc Clellans
receiving back the article for his place as
a deed can then be given to Aunt Clara

which
will prevent further trouble hereafter provided Mr
Mc should get himself into trouble again[ . ]
Reason:
Aunt Clara was very anxious that the transfer
should be made and does not know that I
have the paper in my possession. Mr Severance
went home again this morning[ . ]
Reason: I told him
that I would go out with Mr Mc l and arrange
the business next week if I recd you answer by
that time. Please write me in regard to the
matter.
I am unable to give you the number of bls of
butter as I cannot find the bill. I think I
gave it to you with Uncle Polydore
Name: Edwin Seward
Birth: 1799-07-02
Death: 1872-04-25
letter and that
you did not return it to me again, the amt of the
bill was $5590[ . ]
Reason: If you can tell me where to
look for the letter perhaps I may find the bill
with. I will send the receipts for Charlott
Name: Charlotte Connelly
Birth: 1830
Death:
as soon as I can see Mr Morgan
Name: Christopher Morgan
