Sunday July 1st
My dear Son,
I have your letter
from Niagara this
morning and am
glad to be able to tell
you that Corning
Name: Erastus Corning
Birth: 1794-12-14
Death: 1872-04-09
is
really better. I have
not seen him look
so well since the
day he was taken ill.
He has been very seriously
sick - a severe attack
of inflammatory rheuma-
tism — a very painful
disease. His fever
has been with very
little mitigation until
to day. We removed

him to the South
Chamber Friday after
the Dr
would not be up
in a week. McDougall
Name: Clinton MacDougall
Birth: 1839-06-14
Death: 1914-05-24
is with him at night
and also a portion
of each day. I have
been ill myself two
days so that I
was unable to do any
thing for him. He
is seldom long without
company — either some
of the family or visitors.
Uncle George
Name: George Seward
Birth: 1808-08-26
Death: 1888-12-07
and Julia
Name: Julia Seward
Birth: 1824-02-11
Death: 1895
left us yesterday
to visit some friends
at the East.
This day is so charming
I almost wish myself
at the Falls with
Page 3
you. Fanny
Name: Frances Seward
Birth: 1844-12-09
Death: 1866-10-29
has
been once to Mrs. Watsons
Name: Margaret Watson
Birth: 1812-03-30
Death: 1893-11-13
where she found
all well and the
house restored to its
usual order. I hope
they do not miss
dear Jenny
Name: Janet Seward
Birth: 1839-11-18
Death: 1913-11-09
more than
we miss you. Twenty
times a day I find
myself listening for your
step on the stair.
Aunty
Name: Lazette Worden
Birth: 1803-11-01
Death: 1875-10-03
has been here every
day. I do not expect
her to day. Nicholas
Name: Nicholas Bogart
Birth: 1801-12-24
Death: 1893
has been ill two days
& she has the responsibility
of the horses care in
addition to the cattle
& chickens. The horses
are in pasture during
the day.

I hope you may
find bright skies
and smooth waters
for your journey.
All send love.
May God bless &
protect you both
Mother.
