Thursday Sept 26
1861
My dearest Henry
It is the day
of Prayer and fasting –
our family have all
gone to Church. I
wonder how many
clergy men will this
day set before the
people the one great
sin for which the
soul of the Nation
ought to be afflicted –
for which I doubt not
Page 2

it is afflicted this
day – I think it
will be with us as
with the Jews of old
the Lord will not
hear us, until we
determine to “undo
the heavy burdens,
& let the oppressed
go free" – “Then
ye may cry & I will
hear you” – saith
the Lord —
Will
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
, will be with you
before this letter. he
will tell you all
Page 3

about us —
I enclose a letter
to you from Mrs. Stanton
Unknown

She omitted to say
to you what she said
in my letter that
there were three unfilled
places at the Point
in this state –
Your letter about
Russe
Birth: 1825 Death: 1892-04-04
was excellent
and universally appro-
ved by all whose
approbation is of any
account –
your own Frances
