Thursday Feb 20th
My dear Sister
The last letter
we have from you is that
to Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
written Friday
before you went to Seneca
Falls
Will
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
writes that
you did go— Fanny is
still in bed and not yet
free from fever as I infer
from the Dr’s
Birth: 1801-09 Death: 1880-04-08
mode of
treatment though I do not
perceive it by her pulse—
She is weak and at times
restless—she slept pretty
well last night—has
appetite enough, but the Dr
allows nothing but the
lightest of food—I am
thankful that she is under
the care of Dr Helmuth
Page 2

She sat up an hour last evening—
When I am not well myself
I get discouraged about her
but I can see a visible
improvement in a week—
it is now three, since she
was taken sick—I hear
almost every day from
some of the family at
Washington —had a letter
from Jenny
Birth: 1839-11-18 Death: 1913-11-09
yesterday—
and one from Anna
Birth: 1834-03-29 Death: 1919-05-02
to
day—they all keep well.
I think Jenny will come
here before long though no
time is fixed—When
Fanny is sufficiently recovered
we shall I think go to
Washington for a short time
as the Dr says she will
not be able to study in
some time—Jenny will
return there with us or go
Page 3

home as she prefers after
making her visit here –
We have such unpleasant
weather in this latitude
I should not wonder if Jenny
was in a hurry to get home
again — Willie Lincoln
Birth: 1850-12-21 Death: 1862-02-20

is going to die with typhoid
fever—They have two old
school physicians
Unknown
—I
think the President
Birth: 1809-02-12 Death: 1865-04-15
does
not adopt modern
ideas very readily but
he will be sure to adhere
to them when once adopted—
& Mrs Lincoln
Birth: 1818-12-13 Death: 1882-07-16
is not the
person to see the beauty
of homoeopathic practice
I am very sorry for them
both— Willie is their 2d son
about 9 years old—Tad
Birth: 1853-04-04 Death: 1871-07-15

is younger—There is
much rejoicing everywhere
Page 4

except in Florida about the
meeting at Ft. Donelson
What an immense sacrifice
of human life—how horrible
war is—I enclose Henry’s
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10

last letter that you may
see what he thinks of the prog-
ress of the war—Did you
get my letter telling you of
his visit here?— I should
not like to have it lost.
How does Clara
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
get along now
you and Katy are away?
Give our love to her—
I feel sorry about the land
but if she feels secure
perhaps it is just as well
I am glad you had a
nice visit from Frank
Birth: 1854-02-13 Death: 1931-05-23

Frances
Birth: 1826-12-12 Death: 1909-08-24
undoubtedly enjoyed
her visit more having him
near her—Tell Will
I have his letter & will
write soon—Fanny sends
love—How is Trippy
Birth: 1851-06-13 Death: 1862
? sister—
