In the field near Cold Harbor

My dear Jenny
We have just been relieved
from the front line of battle and are now getting
a little rest in the rear after laying on the ground
flat on our faces under a heavy fire from the
enemy for nearly three day & most of the time
in the rain. Our boys keep up excellent spirits
however. I forgot to tell you that I have an
abundant supply of fresh milk every. Rooker
