Sunday July 3rd
My dear Son
The month of June
with it birds and flowers
has gone by and we
have not had your
promised visit. When
I heard the payment of
the Army of the Potomac
was deferred indefinitely
I thought it probable
you would not be able
to come at present.
We shall be very glad to
see you when you can
come. It seemed a long
time since we had heard
[left Margin] I will
write to
Anna soon.

God bless
you

. This morningJenny
Birth: 1839-11-18 Death: 1913-11-09
has his letter ofthe 24th forwarded from
Washington. It is a comfort
to know he was safe up
to that time. I do not
venture to look much
to the future. This
morning's paper brings the
report of the injury
of Maj. Merriman
Birth: 1839-09-05 Death: 1892-04-16
, theson we suppose of the
cashier
Birth: 1808-07-10 Death: 1877-04-22
of the Auburn
Bank.His father has been suffering
much with apprehension
about his safety since
the commencement of their
campaign. His own mother
Birth: 1812 Death: 1849
is not living. His step-
mother
Birth: 1813-08-14 Death: 1890-01-20
seems muchattached to the children
Birth: 1841
Death: 1910-07-19

Death: 1917-05-17
I have heard nothing except
the Tribune report yet,
but see no reason to doubt
that it is their son.
His arm is shattered by a
shell. He was in the 18th
Corps. Mr Chase's
Birth: 1808-01-13 Death: 1873-05-07
resig-nation causes much surprise
and speculation about his
successor. I think Mr
Fessenden's
Birth: 1806-10-16 Death: 1869-09-08
acceptance woulddo much to inspire
confidence, hope his health
may allow it. I enclose
an article from a Syracuse
paper, Democratic of course,
It manifests a spirit which
is very prevalent in these
parts. Is not it strange
that such people would
risk another riot to further
their own political schemes.
I do not know that I have
mentioned that Joseph has
been twice assailed by
rowdies, once by some
Irish boys about his
own age, and last
night at the las ^t^ hour, when
he went to meet the woman

sent. A week or twoago some person threw a
stone, in the night, at one
of the windows in the North
Chamber. Elisa
Certainty: Probable
heard theglass break but did not
attempt to discern who it was.
The print of a man's foot
was very obvious in the morning
in the slate rock opposite
the window. These are law-
less times. Tell Anna the woman
came safe & pleases Aunty
