Auburn Sep. 15th
My dear Son
I have deferred
writing for two weeks
with the hope of seeing
you here, but I begin
to think you will
not come at present.
I wrote last when
the excursionistS were
here. After being
home two weeks Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29

is again preparing to
leave. She goes to
Washington with Anna
Birth: 1834-03-29 Death: 1919-05-02

leaving here the 21st.
Contrary to our intentions
Page 2

we have passed this
summer here. So many
things have conspired to
keep me at home that
I have not even made
the visit to Catherine
Huson
Birth: 1825 Death: 1898
that I promised.
We had a very pleasant
visit of 2 weeks from
Jenny
Birth: 1839-11-18 Death: 1913-11-09
and Nellie
Birth: 1862-09-11 Death: 1921-10-05

while Mrs Watson
Birth: 1812-03-30 Death: 1893-11-13
was
away. Jenny is not
very well this week.
Nelly was here yesterday
is very well and very
winning. I wish you
could see her while
she creeps. I am going to
see Jenny this afternoon.
Page 3

The weather has been very
warm again for two or
three days. After Fanny
is gone, if you do not
come home I shall
go to Rochester for a
week or two, and then
make Aunty
Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
a visit
before I go to N Washington.
I shall probably go to
Washington the last of October,
if Jenny would like to
go there we can go together,
a week or two will make
little difference with me
if all keep well. Aunty
has been better the last
week. Frances
Birth: 1826-12-12 Death: 1909-08-24
is not
well yet, though I do not
think she has typhoid
Page 4

fever as Dr Bennet
Birth: 1830 Death: 1885-08-10
insists.
She talks of going to Washington
some time this Winter
but I do not know at
what time. I would
prefer to be here with
Aunty while she is away
if we can so arrange
it. I can come home at
any time provided the Hudson
River is not frozen over.
What think you of the
war? Does not the end
seem more probably near
than it has at any time
previous? O how we wish
it would come, justly
and honourably.
I wrote the letter to Michael
Dorsey
Birth: 1812 Death: 1872-08-03
, and addressed
Page 5

it to your care. Jenny put
the money in the letter
while I was away. I think
it was a $5 bill. His
wife
Birth: 1816 Death: 1894-02-05
took the letter to the
office. I did not like
her appearance.
How provoking it is that Wm
Henry
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
, ("Orange County") as
Fred
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
says will insist upon
writing his name Junior
I wish his name were
something else, he has
no right to say Jr.
Yesterday I was asked if
you had not a very
lucrative situation in
some office. I answered "no"
rather sharply. It was poor
Mr Brown

that made the
inquiry, he had heard some
Page 6

say so, and was not particularly
to blame. Thursday –
Going to see Jenny yesterday I met
her and dear Nelly coming up.
Jenny is pretty well again. She
had an p ambrotype of herself
and Nelly for you which
Fanny is to take to you.
Last night your letter to her
came saying it was very
doubtful about your coming
home. We are all sorry,
but perhaps something may
occur to make it possible
yet. I have been with
Mrs B. F. Hall
Birth: 1821-04-04 Death: 1896-07-07
this morning
her little girl
Birth: 1860-09
so near
our Nelly's age is dey dying,
has been ill some weeks
with summer complaint.
You must be cautious
about eating too much fruit
at this season. May God
bless & keep you, Mother.

failed to
get a likeness
of Aunty, which
I much regret.
She thinks
she will
go to Wash[ - ]
