Martinsburg Dec 19
My dear Mother
I recd your letter of last
Sunday which was the first I had heard
of the troubles at home, as I have recd
but two letters from Jenny
Person
& each of those was more than a week
on the road. It really seems as though Jennys
troubles multiply at an unfortunate time
I spend most of the day yesterday at H Ferry
Place
and on the RR making some changes in the
troops, tomorrow I shall make an inspection
of the troops west of here The weather is now
very disagreeable & mud quite deep. Since
the base of supplies was changed Martinsburgh
has become very quiet and I have not near
as much to do now
Your affectionate Son
Will
