Courtship which is the funniest thing of
the kind I have seen in a long time. It
has furnished amusement for every one that
has been in to day
Your letter & mothers
Birth: 1805-09-24 Death: 1865-06-21
give much later
news from home thatn anything have heard
from there direct, as my letters from there
do not reach me under a week and sometimes
are much longer in coming.
The last letter I had from Jenny
Birth: 1839-11-18 Death: 1913-11-09
she seemed
quite nervous with all the excitement which
had occured within the last two weeks, poor
girl I do not wonnder & am only surprised
that she is as well as she is. She had thought
some of visiting Lucy
Birth: 1832-04-27 Death: 1903-12-20
or Libby
Birth: 1834-03-20 Death: 1892-02-25
but I believe
has given it up.
We have excellent sleighing here now and
most of the members of my staff seem
to be enjoying it. Col Taft
Birth: 1832-09-10 Death: 1867-01-20
is still with me

and anxiously awaiting news from Washington
in regard to his affairs

with you all on Christmas if it were
possible
Your affectionate brother
