736 South 10th St.
Philada. May 3d 1866 –
My Dear Cousin,
I have written
to you twice asking your in-
-fluence and cooperation in an
effort I had commenced to
obtain the agency for the
Merchants Union Express Co.
for this city, and thus far,
have received no answer. I
have attributed this to various
causes – the possibility that
you have not received either
of my letters, the want of time
on your part to reply to them,
and the expectation of seeing me
in person. Still I am so anx-
ious about the matter that
I cannot for-bear writing
again – for fear there may be
^some^ misunderstanding. There is another
reason that impels me to this
course. I have rallied all my
friends around me here and
believe I have succeeded in
securing the favorable considera-
-tion of the trustees here, Messrs.
Caldwell

& Lewis

, These gentle-
-men naturally expect that I
had got your endorsement also
and I feel almost ashamed to
ask any further consideration
from them until I get it from
Auburn. I hope therefore you
will let me hear from you
as soon as possible. I can
I believe do more in the way
of getting subscriptions than
the agent you have here now,
and I should like to be able
to best myself at once. Be-
-sides, if I cannot secure this
position I would like to know
it at once so that I can turn
my attention to something
else –
Please let me hear from
you as soon as possible –
Aff. Your Cousin,
S. S. Seward
