My dear Father
I enclose copy of
arrangements for the Presidents Reception
I think that matters are so arranged
that everything will go off satisfactorly and
we shall have a very creditable demonstration
In order to bring these matters about it
has been necessary bring several hostile
interests together. Much jealosy therefore
exists between Mr Hall
Name: Willis Hall
Birth: 1801
Death: 1868Certainty: Possible
the Committee of
Arrangements & the Common Council. I mention
these matters in order that Committee ^&Common Council^ may be
regarded by the party as the movers. Mac
Name: Clinton MacDougall
Birth: 1839-06-14
Death: 1914-05-24
will meet you in Albany

and explain
more fully. Everything at our house is in
readiness and Jenny
Name: Janet Seward
Birth: 1839-11-18
Death: 1913-11-09
will give the whole
party breakfast Saturday morning. I enclose
also a copy of the list distributing the party
for the night. For good reasons I thought it
best that Grant
Name: Ulysses Grant
Birth: 1822-04-27
Death: 1885-07-23
& Farragut
Name: David Farragut
Birth: 1801-07-05
Death: 1870-08-14
should be your
guests and trust that you will not think
differently. My reasons are good and I will

explain them when you arrive but I
pray you will not change the
arrangement (in reference to Grant & Farragut
at least).

In as much as the demonstration to be made
is by all shades of Citizens (composing your
friends) I would suggest that in reply to the
Mayors
Name: George Humphreys
Birth: 1814-03-15
Death: 1885-06-09
welcome the President
Name: Andrew Johnson
Birth: 1824
Death:
make a simple
response not touching political subjects. And
in the evening the call from the Johnson Club
will afford in oportunity for political comments
is desired
