My dear Father
When you were home in
June I asked you to take two of Mac Dougalls
Name: Clinton MacDougall
Birth: 1839-06-14
Death: 1914-05-24
notes $500 Ea in payment for lots No 5 & 6 Eliz[ abeth ]
Reason: hole
street, & upon your consenting I forwarded you
a deed which you executed and I endorsed
over the notes to you, making $1500 of Mac’s
notes ^in all^ which you hold altogether, due $500 Ea
July 1 1868 June 1/69 & July 1/69 These notes I
supposed would be paid at maturity but I
now find that he cannot pay any of th[ em ]
Reason: hole
at present and will probably have to have
more time on them.
There are still four lots on Elizabeth st Nos 7-8-9[ -10 ]
Reason: hole
for which I hold Articles upon which I owe
you or the Estate 2250
I now propose to pay up for the remaining
lots and take back from you the M.D.
Notes which with accrued int amt to 1559.77
In all $3,809 77
by assigning to you a Mtg which I hold
against Alex B Elliott
Name: Alexander Elliot
Birth: 1835
Death: 1871-04-17
on the new brick house (on
lot No 1 Elizabeth Street) which I built and sold to
him for $4000 There being unpaid on the Mtg 3750
leaving balance due you of $59.[ 77 ]

which will in cash over

The balance unpaid on the Elliott Mtg

Reason: holes payable as follows $500 Jan 1/69 &
$250 with all interest on unpaid balance,
semiannually there after. Collateral to the
Mtg there is an Insurance policy of $2500.
Elliott is a good steady man and will
undoubtedly pay regularly, but to add
to the security I will guarantee the Mtg if
^you desire it^ I enclose a deed for Lots 7-8-9-10 for which
I now hold contracts payable some
years ahead. Should you approve
of my proposition please execute the
deed and return it to me
