Biography

He was a naval officer who was promoted to Commander in 1861. He served in the Coast Guard and the Navy where he was responsible for performing coast surveys for New York and New England. He was accidentally killed by a gun firing off salutes in 1863. The Seward family lived in the house Woodhull built in Washington, DC from 1855 to 1858.
