Biography

Representative from New York's 23rd District 1863-1867. Thomas Treadwell Davis was the grandson of Thomas Tredwell and was a Representative from New York's 23rd District 1863-1867. He was born in Middlebury, Addison County, Vt., August 22, 1810 and moved to Clinton, Oneida County, New York in 1817. He attended the Clinton (N.Y.) Academy and Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., which he graduated from in 1831. In 1831 Thomas Treadwell Davis moved to Syracuse, Onondaga County where he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 183. He began his practice in Syracuse. Another of his interests was  railroading and coal mining. He was elected as a Unionist to the Thirty-eighth Congress and reelected as a Republican to the Thirty-ninth Congress (March 4, 1863-March 3, 1867). He was not a candidate for renomination in 1866 and resumed the practice of law in Syracuse. He died in Washington, D.C., May 2, 1872 and his remains were cremated and the ashes deposited in Oakwood Cemetery.
