Apprenticed about 1820 to William Nichols in Cooperstown, NY. He moved to Auburn in 1827. He worked from 1827 to 1850 as a silversmith in Auburn. He was a partner around 1844 with Philo Allen in Buffalo NY as Chedell & Allen. His company in Auburn was listed as Cheadell & Co. He was also in partnership with George Harbottle, a jeweler, from 1834-1850.
