Biography

William Gould was born in Caldwell, Essex, New Jersey, His parents were Joseph Gould and Rebecca Rebekah Paxton. He married Mary Banks Gould.

 William Gould was the first law book publisher in Albany, New York. He later partnered with Stephen Gould and David Banks in publishing books. After his death in 1846 his brother Anthony Gould took over the business and when he died in 1856 the company was taken over by William Gould, a nephew of the original William Gould. In 1867 the firm of William Gould and sons was established.
