Biography
He was the son of actress Susan Webb Cushman. His father abandoned the family before he was born and he was adopted by his wealthy aunt, the stage actress Charlotte Cushman afterward. His aunt changed his name to Edwin Charles Cushman from Charles Carlino Cushman, which was officially recognized by 1851. He was educated at the US Naval Academy from 1852 to 1856. In 1865, he worked as the US Consulate in Italy. He moved back to St. Louis sometime before the 1870 census. He was working as an iron dealer in the 1880 census in Newport, RI. He died on pneumonia while in Italy.
