A member of the New York State Legislature and Mayor of Albany, New York, he was elected as a Senator from New York to the United States Senate, filling the vacancy caused when Martin Van Buren resigned the to assume the position of Vice President in the Administration of President Andrew Jackson. Senator Dudley served from 1829 to 1833.
