Biography

In about 1820 he began to study law in Cortland, NY, but later moved to Vermont where he was admitted to the bar in 1824. He then studied in the office of Judge Cushman of Troy, NY and in 1827 was admitted to the bar in New York. Later that year he was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court (for NY State). He maintained a practice in Troy, NY until he moved to NYC in 1839. He was attacked with paralysis in 1840, but maintained his duties as Commissioner of Deeds and Master in Chancery despite limited physical mobility. Due to his paralysis, he stopped work in 1849. He was with his sister's family in Tioga County when he died. He never married.
